16 Comforting Prayers for Hard Times 

We all could use prayers for hard times in life. Because those are the moments we’re feeling weak, and can struggle to find the words to speak.  

In those tough times, it can be helpful to read through prayers. To use them to begin our time with God. Like a kind of launching pad for coming before Him. 

The following prayers can help to get the conversation started. They can help you begin to pour out your heart before God. So, you can find His comfort and peace even in the middle of difficult things.  

Because no matter what you’re facing, He loves you. He is with you. And He is working all things out for your good.  

Even the hard times in life that don’t feel so good.  

A Prayer for Hard Times

Heavenly Father,  

My heart is breaking within me, and it feels like the world is shaking beneath me. I’m overwhelmed and I don’t know what to do.

Your Word says that You draw near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18) and I’m praying this is true. Because right now I desperately need You.  

I need Your comfort and peace to surround me. And I need Your Holy Spirit to strengthen and guide me.  

I cannot do this on my own. I need You to sustain me. Be with me in my great time of need. Remind me that this is not the end. That better days lie ahead. And help me to hold onto the hope I have in You.  

Thank You, Lord, for being with me and loving me through the hard times of life.

What does God say to do in hard times?

In John 16:33 Jesus tells us we will have trouble, but then He tells us to take heart because He has overcome the world.  

His point in this verse is to remind us that we are going to have trouble in this life. We can’t escape it. We can’t avoid it. In fact, we should EXPECT it.   

But we can take heart.   

We don’t have to be afraid. We don’t have to worry. Because Jesus has overcome the world.   

This means He will make everything right someday. He will wipe every tear from our face. (Rev. 21:4) And while not EVERYTHING in this life is good, He can use ALL THINGS for the good of those who love Him. (Romans 8:28) 

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Good Prayers for Hard Times

The following good prayers for hard times are great to say when you don’t know what to say. When you’re so overcome with grief that you find it hard to think. 

Use these prayers as a way to get started in your time with the Lord. But don’t just read these prayers and then move on.  

• Keep going.  
• Keep praying.  
• Keep crying out to God.  

Pour your heart out before the Lord (Lam. 2:19). He already knows it all anyway. 

So, go ahead. Tell Him EVERYTHING. Be completely honest about what you are feeling. And then cast your cares at His feet. (1 Peter 5:7) 

Knowing He passionately loves you. And He is the only One who has the strength to carry you through.

A Prayer for Strength & Healing in Hard Times

Holy Spirit,  

I need Your strength to help me keep going in these difficult and trying times. And I need Your healing touch in my life. Bring me peace of mind as I lean on You. And give me the courage to face each day with hope, optimism, and faith.  

Give me the strength to remain strong in the face of adversity. And show me how to overcome the obstacles that come my way. Guide me to the path of healing and recovery as I trust in Your love and mercy to sustain me in these challenging times.  

I am so grateful that no matter what I face You are right by my side. Please continue to watch over me and guide me to a brighter future.

Lord God, 

I come before you today with a troubled mind and heavy heart because of all the difficulties I’m facing right now in my life. I desperately need Your comfort and grace to remind me of the hope I have in You. To help me stay strong in the face of adversity. And to give me the faith I need to keep going.  

Surround me with Your love and protection. And help me to trust in Your greater plan for me.

Abba Daddy,  

I come to you today in search of strength and guidance. I’m feeling lost, uncertain, and overwhelmed by these hard times I am facing. Help me to see the path You have laid out for me and to trust in Your infinite love and wisdom.  

I know that with Your help I can overcome any obstacle in my way. Because while it seems impossible to me. With You, nothing is impossible.

Lord Jesus,  

I come before You now with a heavy heart. The things I’m facing seem insurmountable and I’m struggling to find the strength to keep going. I’m feeling hopeless and really down right now, so I need Your help.  

Strengthen my faith. Remind me of all Your loving promises to me. Help me to see that even in the midst of this, You are working for my good, and the good of those around me.

A Prayer for the Difficult Times in Life

Oh Lord, 

In these complex and uncertain times, I have no clue what to do. My heart is feeling heavy within me because all I see is the pain, suffering, and chaos surrounding me. I cannot see a way out of it all. But I know You do. 

Help me to trust You to guide me through this storm to the other side. And to remember that because You are with me, I can find the hope and strength to keep going in life. 

I pray for wisdom to make the right decisions. Patience to wait on Your timing. Clarity on what to do. And above all, I pray for hope. The hope that things will get better. That You are working all things out for my good.  

And that as I fix my eyes on you, I will find joy even in these trials.

Dear God,  

I’m going through a lot right now at my work and I need strength to handle the challenges laying before me.  

Help me to stay focused and motivated even when I feel overwhelmed. Guide me to the right decisions and help me to handle difficult situations with grace and integrity.  

I also want to lift up my colleagues to You. Because I know many of them are struggling, too. Help us all to support and encourage each other with kind words and actions. And help us to treat each other with grace and understanding.

Jehovah Rapha,  

You are the God who heals. And I know You can heal me. I come before You today because I need Your healing power to help me overcome the health challenges I am facing. 

Show me the right path to take that will lead to recovery.  

Guide the medical staff that is taking care of me so they can make the best decisions for my health and well-being. And bless me with patience and resilience to endure these hard times due to health issues.  

Above all, I pray for Your mercy and grace to heal me completely.

You are the God who sees me. And I know You see what is happening.

Heavenly Father,

Lord Jesus,  

I could really use a sense of peace. Everything feels chaotic around me and I’m facing challenges that feel quite daunting. I need Your strength to help me in these moments when I feel helpless and weak.

Help me to remember You will answer my prayers. In Your perfect way. And Your perfect timing.

Help me to find hope and inspiration in Your Holy Word. And to remember Your many great promises to me.  

I know You love me. You are with me. And in all these difficult things You are working . . . for my good. And for Your glory.

What to Do in the Hard Times of Life

So, what are we to do in the hard times of life?  

We pray. We meditate on God’s Word. And we sing praises to our King.  

We remind ourselves of God’s faithfulness in the past. And that He will be faithful again. We consider His many promises to us. And remember the hope we have in Him.  

Because no matter what we are going through, He is right by our side. Especially during the hard times of life. 

He draws near to us when we are broken-hearted. To comfort us. Give us strength. And to remind us of His never-ending love that never lets go of us.
