Prayer for A Better Tomorrow: 10 Powerful Prayers of Hope

Living with a chronic illness means I have some hard days. Days when I just lay on the couch because doing anything makes me light-headed and dizzy.

On those hard days my only thought is to get all the rest I can so that tomorrow is a better day.

But often, as I rest I find myself crying out to God.

To be completely honest, I usually start off by throwing a little pity party. But eventually, I find myself surrendering to God’s plan for my life. And trusting that there is a reason He allows these health issues to plague me.

And this is exactly what we should do.

The Psalms are proof that we can cry out to God. We can be brutally honest with Him about our tumultuous feelings, frustrations, and disappointments.

But in the end, we need to choose to trust Him.

To have faith that He loves us and knows what He’s doing. Even in the moments where His actions are hard to understand.

The best response when we’re longing for a better tomorrow is to go to God in prayer. To pour out our hearts before Him (Lamentations 2:19). Because only God is strong enough to help us.

Prayer is God’s good gift to us. Because it is our chance to speak to the God of the universe who is in control of everything.

Which is pretty amazing.

But another reason prayer is a gift is because prayer points us back to God.

It helps us to turn our eyes away from our circumstances, and back onto Him. And as we pray to Him, He can help us learn to look forward with hope as we remember that tomorrow is a brand-new day.

And the God who passionately loves us is with us every step of the way.

How do I pray for a better day tomorrow?

So, how do I pray to God for a better day? How do I pray for a better future?

The truth is there is not a right way to pray. There aren’t specific words you have to use. Or a specific amount of time you need to spend in prayer.

Because it’s not about doing all the right things so God will give you what you want. It’s about building your relationship with Him.

To pray for a better tomorrow, you simply need to start. And bring to God everything that is in Your heart. (After all, He already knows what’s in there anyway.)

Ask Him to help you. Tell Him what you need. And then surrender to His will for you.

Holding onto His promises that no matter what you are going through:

  • God loves you dearly. (John 3:16)
  • God will be with you. (Deut. 31:8)
  • And God’s grace is more than enough to carry you through. (2 Cor. 12:9)

Prayer for A Better Tomorrow: 10 Powerful Prayers of Hope

When life is hard, sometimes all we can do is lift up a prayer for a better tomorrow. Trusting that the God who passionately loves us is with us in our greatest moments of sorrow.

The following prayers of hope for a better tomorrow are great for when you don’t really know what to say. They can help you get started in your prayer time for God.

But don’t just say these prayers and then move on.

Use them as a launching pad. Change the words if you need to and make them your own.

Because while written prayers like these are great for giving us ideas on what to pray, we need to keep going. To keep pouring out our hearts to God. And to keep connecting with the One who loves us more than we could possibly imagine.

Because it is in His Presence that we find what we need to keep going.

A Prayer for a New Opportunity

Dear Lord,

I know You are the source of all good things (James 1:17), and so I’m asking You for a new opportunity.

I need things to change in my life. But I don’t know what to do and I’m not sure the direction I’m supposed to take. So, please reveal the best way for me to go.

Help me to see the new things I need to do or pursue so I can create a better future for myself and my family.

In Jesus’s Name, Amen.

A Prayer for a Brighter Future

Dear God,

I want to be a happy, hopeful person and yet sometimes that feels impossible. Especially when I look at what’s going on around me or I watch the news.

Everything seems so dark. So scary. So unpredictable. And it causes me to worry about the future.

Help me to remember in these moments that You’re in control. That You have a better future planned for me than I could ever dare to dream. And that these hard times I’m facing won’t last forever.

Help me to hold onto the hope of a brighter future.

A Prayer for Better Days

Dear Heavenly Father,

You’re the love of my life. And I’m so grateful that I have You. Because to be honest, without You, I don’t know what I would do.

You give me hope for the future. You help me remember that this storm won’t last forever. And there are brighter days ahead.

Be my comfort and peace while this storm is raging. And hold onto me until You bring better days my way.

A Prayer for Guidance on the Right Direction

Holy Spirit,

In the book of Jeremiah, it says You have good plans for me (Jeremiah 29:11). So, I’m asking that You point me onto the right path.

Show me what You want me to do. Where You want me to go. And help me to honor and glorify You in all I say and do.

I know You can make tomorrow a brighter day, if it’s in Your will. But no matter what tomorrow brings I will choose to trust You every step of the way.

Lead me, Lord. Where You go, I will follow.

A Prayer for Tough Times

Christ Jesus,

In my current state of mind, I’m really having a hard time and I desperately need You to help me.

Give me comfort. Give me peace. Give me the mental strength I need to face a future that feels so discouraging.

Help me, Jesus, to remember that whether it’s a good day or a bad day, You are with me. And just as David said, I can have confidence that I will see the goodness of God in the land of the living (Psalm 27:13).

If not today, then someday soon. All thanks to You. The God who is working all things out for my good. (Romans 8:28)

The God who gave up everything in order to give me eternal life. And the God who has promised that someday everything will be made right.

It’s in Your Holy Name I pray, Amen.

A Prayer for a New Attitude

O God,

I know sometimes I can cause my own trouble. My heart can be selfish, bitter, and mean. And my own words can hurt those around me when they’re full of anger, negativity, and complaining.

But I also know You’re a forgiving God. And You can show me a new way of living.

So, help me to stop waiting for the other shoe to drop. To stop focusing so much on all that is going wrong in my life. And to instead focus on all that is right.

To develop a new attitude of gratitude, learning how to be content with what I have. While trusting that You’re not done with me yet.

Thank you, Lord, for never giving up on me.

A Prayer for Our Daily Lives

Dear God,

I lift up this simple prayer to You. A little prayer thanking You for saving me and giving me new life.

Because of You, I can always have hope for a better tomorrow.

  • I know You love me.
  • You have a good plan for me.
  • And every day You are working in a thousand ways I may never see.

And no matter what happens today, I know it can be a special day. Because I am walking through it all with You, the God who adores me.

A Prayer for Someone Going Through a Difficult Time

Lord God,

I lift up ______________ to You today. Help them with the heavy loads they’re carrying.

When they feel like they’re walking through the valley of the shadow of death (Psalm 23:4), help them to fear no evil. To feel Your Presence with them. To know that this won’t last forever. And that someday they will be in a better place.

Reveal ways I can help them. And give me the right words to speak to comfort and encourage them.

May Your loving kindness fill their hearts with Your everlasting peace as they go through this difficult time.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

A Prayer for a Family Member

Dear Heavenly Father,

I want my family member to live a happy life. And yet, I also know that what is best for them is to find their happiness in You.

So, while I pray for a better tomorrow for them. I also pray that You will be at work in them today. Soften their hearts. Open their minds. And work in these moments to bring them closer to You.

Because what they really need more than anything . . .  is You.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

A Prayer for a Time of Need

Lord Jesus Christ,

Right now, it feels like I have little hope for a better tomorrow. And yet, I know I serve a God who can work miracles.

So, I’m asking You for one now.

I need You to turn this situation around. To work in this for my good and Your glory. And I need Your comfort because right now it all feels so devastating.

Help me to find comfort in the fact that You’re an understanding God. You get it. You know what it’s like to be in a time of need. When You walked this Earth there was so much suffering You endured.

And yet, in the end it was all worth it.

And I know that You can work even these bad things out for my good.

But until then, I need You in this in between space. The space between this hard thing that is happening . . . and the good I can see You bring from it.

So, comfort me. Encourage me. Strengthen me. And help me to keep my eyes on You until this storm stops raging.

Trusting God for a Better Tomorrow

When we’re facing tough times and are hoping for a better tomorrow, we can cling to the promises found in the Word of God. Because in the Bible there are so many words of encouragement for our weary souls.

The most important part of our day is when we spend time with God. Because in His Presence we can pray, be still, and listen.

He will encourage and comfort us in our time of need. Even as He asks us to trust that He knows what He is doing.

And through our tough times, God will grow our faith in Him.

Helping us to develop a closer relationship with Him. To experience His mercy and grace in intimate, new ways. And to teach us not to take anything for granted, but instead to have plenty of gratitude for all we have been given.

God’s love is what will sustain us until the storm passes. And as people of faith, we can rise up as strong prayer warrior women. Lifting up our prayers to Him as we cling to His promise that there WILL be better days.

It’s only a matter of time before the sun once again begins to shine.

May our daily prayer be to hold onto Jesus in our sorrow, while trusting Him to carry us through to a better tomorrow.

If you find this encouraging, then please share it so it can bless others!
