I like to think about the woman with the issue of blood in the Bible and how hopeless her situation was. There had been endless medical visits with no hope in sight. She was drained physically, and emotionally and eventually was labeled as an outcast.
This was her story until she heard about Jesus and his healing power. Her hope was rekindled, and she found the courage to go seek her miracle.
Hope will keep you going in the darkest nights and afloat in the fiercest of life’s storms.
It is a virtue we all must possess in our Christian journey, for with it, we will keep moving even when it feels like our world is standing still.

Psalm 71 is a heartfelt plea for help and hope, and also a declaration of one man’s unwavering trust in God.
The words in Psalm 71 clearly depict the picture of a powerful prayer for hope and an individual’s steadfast hope and trust in God.
“In you, O LORD, I have put my trust and confidently taken refuge; Let me never be put to shame.” – Psalm 71:1 AMP
The author in his introductory verse comes before God confidently and bares his heart. He states his stance when he says – “It is in you, O Lord that I have chosen to put my trust and take refuge.”
In other words, Lord, I am totally dependent on your grace and unfailing love for me, you won’t leave me helpless. (Paraphrase)
- Where is your hope and confidence when life’s challenges hit?
- Will your hope be in God, or will you be swayed to sit in a place of doubt and unbelief?
The Psalmist concludes that verse with a prayer – let me never be put to shame.
God wants to draw you out of despair and hopelessness, you only need to trust in him.

Prayer: Dear Father, I am sinking deeper into a bottomless hole, hold my hands and pull me up. I look at the raging storms before me and I am overcome with fear and doubt. Everything seems to be crumbling before me and it looks like there is no hope in sight.

Scripture: “Indeed there is hope for a tree. If it’s cut down and still sprouting and its shoots don’t fail, if its roots age in the ground and its stump dies in the dust, at the scent of water, it will bud and produce sprouts like a plant.” – Job 14:7-9

A Final Encouragement for Anyone Feeling Hopeless
As I close this article, I think about Hezekiah in the Bible who was given the verdict to go home and prepare for his death. It was a very hopeless situation.
In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said,
“This is what the LORD says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.” – Isaiah 38:1
However, Hezekiah’s response gives us a clue to what we can do in the hopeless and hard seasons of life.
Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord. – Isaiah 38:2
He turned his attention away from the challenge before him and went before God.
Today, will you turn your eyes away from the pain, hurt, and challenge before you? Turn to God and pour out your heart before him in prayer.
